Hyundai Motor Co.’s electric vehicle IONIQ 5 has outscored models from Mercedes-Benz and Audi in a performance test by Germany’s leading automobile magazine Auto Motor und Sport (AMS).
The IONIQ 5 was selected as the most competitive car in a recent evaluation of four electric SUV models conducted by the German magazine.
This favorable review came following Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s positive comment on Hyundai Motor's performance in the U.S. electric vehicle market.
AMS is one of the three most reliable German car magazines along with AutoBild and Auto Zeitung and has big influence on consumers not only in Germany but in Europe.
The magazine evaluated four models fiercely competing in the European electric vehicle market. The four were the IONIQ 5, the Mercedes-Benz EQA 250, the Audi Q4 e-tron, and the Renault Megan E-Tech. AMS checked the four models in seven categories — body, safety, comfort, powertrain, driving power, environmental impact and economic efficiency.
The IONIQ 5 took first place in three categories including powertrain, body and economic efficiency. The Korean model finished first by earning 617 points overall. The Q4 e-tron received 602 points, the Megan E-Tech 577 points and the EQA 250 571 points.
The IONIQ 5 received the highest score of 92 in the powertrain category, which is considered the core competitiveness of electric vehicles, and the highest score of 105 points in the body category, which evaluates interior space, versatility and functionality and omnidirectional visibility. These high scores proved the IONIQ 5’s strong product competitiveness.
It also logged 127 points, the highest score, in the economic efficiency category where the models were compared in terms of price, residual value, repair cost and fuel cost.
