Here are highlights from the latest episodes of ‘Daily Drive’, Automotive News’ weekday podcast, Oct. 3-6, hosted by Jamie Butters with Kellen Walker.
“[Ford CEO Jim Farley] and I talked, and we agreed. He knows this transformation is going to take multiple years. He’s looking for that commitment to stay through that. And … it was just a good mutual decision, a good work-life balance decision for me.” — Hau Thai-Tang, Ford’s recently retired chief industrial platform officer, on why it was the right time to step down
“We’re going to be competing head-on with the Teslas, the Rivians, the Lucids, and consumers like the way they do business with those companies.” — Don Romano, CEO of Hyundai Canada, on why he thinks an agency model for retail makes sense for some automakers and dealers
“It’s a significantly lower-cost cell than what is being offered in the market right now. And we think that will give us a leading position in this factory.” — Mujeeb Ijaz, CEO of Our Next Energy, which announced a $1.6 billion battery cell plant in suburban Detroit last week. Our Next Energy is targeting $50 per kilowatt-hour for the cost of its battery cells while providing higher energy density compared with most battery cells currently on the market.
